Parametric acoustic software estimates everything in an assembly from material properties — density, bending stiffness, damping — with no anchor to a real result. For a straightforward build-up that sits squarely inside the body of research, that can be acceptable. For mass timber, where systems are still evolving and every supplier’s layup is slightly different, the error bars widen fast. Rebuild a known lab-tested floor in a pure prediction tool and the variation can be enormous.
